BROGAN, Bernice Ann

Peacefully passed on 8th June 2021, at the age of 84. Dearly loved wife of Paddy for 64 years, loved mother of Pauline, Patrick, Kevin and Susan, Michael, Joseph and Joanne. Grandmother to 11, also great-grandmother to 11. A Service for Bernice will be held at St Joseph’s Catholic Church, 14 Pitua Road, Te Puna, on Friday, 11th June 2021 at 2.00pm. The family gives thanks to all the wonderful staff at Acacia Park in Omokoroa.

STEPHENS, Jo (Gertrude Josephine)

Passed away peacefully at Radius Heatherlea on Tuesday 8 June 2021, just short of her 99th birthday. Dearly loved wife of the late Doug. Dearly loved mum of Heather and Robin, Ernie and Heather. Much loved by her grandchildren, Shane, Paula and Bart; Glen, Brendon and Tanya, and great-grandchildren. A service to celebrate Jo’s life will be held at Vospers Chapel, 257 Devon Street East, New Plymouth on Saturday 12 June 2021 at 12.45pm, followed by burial at Awanui Cemetery.


HIGGS, Paula Johanna(née Graafstal)

On June 7, 2021, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her loving family, aged 91 years. Dearly loved wife of the late Richard (Dick), loved mother and mother-in-law of Peter, James and Rebekah, David and Julia, and Pauline, loving nana of Cameron, and Timothy; Laura, Michael, and Jonty, loved aunty of all her nieces and nephews in Holland. At Rowena Jackson Retirement Village, with her loving family by her side, on Wednesday, June 29, 2021, aged 77 years. Dearly loved wife of the late Ray Black. Dearly loved mother and mother-in-law of Andrea and Paul Nicholson, Darlene Russell and Allan Richardson, and Kurt Black. Adored Nana of Hayden and Suzzane, Jemma and Josh, Logan and Annlee, Dale Thomas, Lukus and Anikha, Noak, and Great Taua of all her great-grandchildren. Loved sister and sister-in-law of Rodger and Janice Leader. Loved aunt of Nicola and Lynden, Kylea and Shane, and Alaina and Luke. Julia will be resting at 129 Black Road, Otatara, until her service on Monday, June 14, at 1.00pm, in the Avenal Park Chapel, 75 Fox Street, Invercargill. In lieu of flowers, donations to Hospice Southland would be appreciated and may be left at the service.


SINGERS, Ian Barry

Peacefully at Hospice Waikato on 4 June 2021, aged 80 years. Much loved and loving husband and soulmate of Jill for 58 years. Dearly loved father of Vicky Kosovich, David Singers, Wendy Alexander and her partner, Brett McCullough. Cherished Grandad and Duke of his 7 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Ian, you’ll never walk beside me again but to feel you close I only have to look at the work, travel and things we have accomplished together. Our memories of you and the values you have instilled in our family will help us in the days ahead. Special thanks to the staff and volunteers at Hospice Waikato for their compassionate care of Ian. In accordance with Ian’s wishes, a private farewell has taken place.


KANE, Raymond Anthony

Peacefully passed away on Saturday 5th June. Aged 75. Devotedly loved husband of Elaine. Treasured father and father in law of Earl, Ron, Joanne, Rosalee and Benjamin. Adored Grandad and Daddad to Jorja, Logan and Jasmine. Special thanks to all the staff that cared for Ray at Mary Potter Hospice and Wellington Regional Hospital. Peacefully at The Croft, Timaru, on Friday, June 4, 2021, in her 98th year. Wife of the late Gordon, cherished mum of the late Robert (Rob), and loved mopsy of all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Loved aunty of Joy and James, Shirley, and Maitland. A great friend of Brian, Sheryl and Kent. At Dorothy’s request, a private cremation has been held.


GURDEN, Owen Robert (Duey)

Unexpectedly, but peacefully, on Wednesday, June 2, 2021, at Christchurch Hospital, aged 74 years. Cherised husband of Lynette, dearly loved father and father-in-law of Debbie and Adam, Michael and Melanie, and Christine and Grant, tresured Duey of Paige, Heidi; Sian; Joshua, Jade, and Jackson. van DUYN, Kathleen Rosalie (Kathy) (nee Donahoe)

Passed away peacefully at Stokeswood Rest Home and Hospital on Saturday, June 5, 2021, following a series of strokes, aged 84 years. Born and raised in Lyttelton and moved to Lower Hutt in 1975. Dearly loved wife of Hank (dec) for almost 55 years. Much loved mother and mother-in-law of Sara, and Joanne and Warren. Loved Oma to Jason, little sister to Kim (dec) and Mary, well-loved Aunty and friend to many. We would like to thank the carers and staff who welcomed Mum into the Stokeswood family and made her last days comfortable. HARPER, Kathryn Elizabeth (formerly McHugh)

On Monday, June 7, peacefully in her sleep after a short illness with her treasured grandson Presley by her side. Dearly loved and ‘colourful’ mum of Kate and Ben McHugh and mother-in-law to Peter. Adored Nan to Presley, the love of her life. Nan to Sooty and Finn. Daughter of Mary (96) and the late Allan Nicholson. Treasured and ‘spirited’ sister of Dianne and Marilyn. Crazy and loved Aunty to Sarah, Laura, Emma, Lydia, and Brad. Loved niece and cousin. Funny and loyal friend to so many. Slipped away just shy of the pension. Kathryn’s celebration of life service will start at 12 noon, Friday, June 11, at Sacred Heart, Waikiwi, followed by a private interment. MATAIRA, Pirihira Marjorie (Billie) (nee Rogers)

Passed away peacefully in Wellington, surrounded by her family, on 3 June 2021, aged 93 years. Beloved wife of the late Lt Colonel Anthony Taroa Mataira. Much loved mother of Simon, Richard and Ana and adored grandma to Chloe, Fraser, Rachel, Fergus and Cameron. A service to celebrate Billie’s life will be held at St Thomas’ Church, Maketu, on Saturday 12 June at 10.00am, followed by her burial. A reception will then be held at the Te Puke RSA. Age 85. On 5th June 2021, in Shona McFarlane Lower Hutt, peacefully passed away in his sleep. Dearly loved husband of the late Daphne Jean Sharpe. Much loved father and father-in-law of Carol & Ian Jordan, adored by grandchildren Lee & Nicola, Nichola & Andrew, Olivia, and great-grandchildren Isabelle, Sophie, Jacob and William.
