A new Wellington Water report prepared by Ernst Young and Beca recommended the region adopt a $144 million advanced metering infrastructure, with daily water consumption feedback and leak alerts provided to residents via a smartphone app.
The report warned leaks and over-consumption could put the region’s water stock under severe strain, and potentially cost hundreds of millions to fix.
At the current rate of water use and population growth, the amount of water needed to meet drought resilience water levels could exceed supply by as early as 2026.

Working with local primary schools, the pair put together hundreds of $150 food hampers for families across Hutt Valley, Porirua and Tawa in the lead-up to Christmas.
But this year, their efforts – through their charity, Nourish – are needed more than ever.
This year the charity has demand for 1000 hampers, at a cost of $135,000. It is double last year’s output, a reflection of the increased pressure families are under as a result of Covid-19, the pair explain.

I have previous experience with looking after kids from the ages of 12 months to 11 years old and I have a current first aid certificate. I have been employed for 6 months or longer permanently but unfortunately this job is coming to an end at the end of year. I will be available every day full time except for Monday’s at this stage from early December. (After school term ends) I am also available during the school holidays and I am open to causal babysitting as well. I don’t have a set rate, just depends on job and responsibilities so rate is negotiable.

I am great at following routines. I have also done respite care for 2 years and have worked with kids with severe asthma and epilepsy. I love arts and crafts, long/short walks, reading, playing at playgrounds and music. I have completed NCEA level 1, NCEA level 2 and have started Level 4 ECE certificate so I can also help with homework and I am almost fluent in Te Reo Māori.
