Kia ora neighbours,

What do you think about the Snapper card extension to Wellington Train services?

Snapper will be rolled out on Wellington train services from October this year, ending over a century of paper ticket use.

The Johnsonville Line will be the first to trial the paperless system, with a full roll out dependent on the finalisation of commercial negotiations.

This is seen as a step towards Waka Kotahi's planned National Ticketing Solution, an initiative that would see all of New Zealand's public transport centralised on one payment system. It would let commuters pay for their journey through a credit/debit card, similar to London's Oyster Card, in use since 2011.

It is an understanding of Te Ao Māori, and Rawiri Waititi’s tie, which has taken one Tawa College student to the national semi-finals of the Race Unity Speech awards.
Sixteen-year-old Lucia Bernards (Te Aitanga ā Hauiti ki Ūawa) is one of two lower North Island students who will represent the region at the semi-finals taking place on Friday.

Lucia, who also attended the national awards last year, and won the Tohu Aumangea – Hedi Moani Memorial Award for Advocacy, said she has looked at this year's theme, Kia Kotahi te Hoe – Paddle as One, using te ata, the stages of dawn.

“I decided to add a little bit of a twist to it, and decided to make it about Te Ao Māori and how we can use what they learnt way back today, to truly paddle as one towards race unity.”

"Hi there my name is Vader aka Vaddie. I came into SPCA under unfortunate circumstances and have been under the care of the Veterinarian and Canine Team. I am now ready for my forever home.
It has taken a bit of time for me to come out of my shell and learn to trust people but once to do I am very loving and loyal. I would love quiet, predictable home with someone around for parts or all of the day as I am not comfortable with being left alone and thrive with company. I would love a home that enjoys going for walks and adventures but at the same understands that I am not always comfortable around the hustle and bustle of city life, I can be a very sensitive soul. I do however, have a playful side. I love playing with toys."

The Snapper pilot will begin in October on the Johnsonville Rail Line, subject to the final completion of commercial negotiations.
Since its launch in 2008, Snapper cards have been used for the overwhelming majority of bus trips in the capital.
Wellington was originally meant to add card payments to trains back in 2015, under a Waka Kotahi plan to expand Auckland’s AT HOP card to the capital.
