In response to the Prime Minister’s address today on raised COVID-19 levels, Metlink will be moving to Sunday services across all public transport modes from Wednesday 25 March.

Metlink GM Scott Gallacher says, that while there are still a number of issues to work out, all trains and buses will move to Sunday services after Tuesday.

“We’ll work to deliver to the current timetables across the network tomorrow but from first thing Wednesday morning, Sunday timetables will be implemented,” says Mr Gallacher.

Buses will no longer board from the front door. Metlink apologises to customers who rely on the accessibility options provided at the front door and encourages customers to find out more about Total Mobility services during this time by calling 0800 801 700.

Customers will be encouraged to continue their own physical distancing practices on all trains and buses, leaving a space next to them where they can.

“We’re still working out what this might mean for Wairarapa rail services and will provide more updates when they become available,” says Mr Gallacher.

UPDATE: As part of the move to Sunday timetables, Metlink school bus services will not run from Wednesday.

If you want to be proactive yourself, you could print a few copies of the attached notice and do a letterbox drop in your own street, even if it’s just five houses on either side of you and a few across the road. That’s what being a good neighbour is all about!

About 70 of Metlink’s 500 bus drivers are aged 70 or over and in accordance with the Ministry of Health guidelines, they are advised to remain at home. Less drivers means there will need to be cancellations to some services across the bus network.

We are currently looking at where cancellations will need to take place and are encouraging Metlink customers to keep up to date with service changes by checking Metlink’s website, App and Real Time Information screens.

Not very neighbourly

Hi everyone,
My little 11 year-old sister and I have some more freshly-picked, pesticide-free habaneros off our bush that we would like to sell to earn some pocket money.

The $1 coin is for size reference, these habaneros are on average 4x to 5x bigger than normal chillis and are really hot so you only need to cut up a small portion into food. The rest can be frozen until needed.

$1 each or 6 for $5.

Covid-19 safety precautions:
Wash produce with soap and water. Because COVID-19 is from a family of viruses very likely deactivated by contact with soap and water, washing your fruit and vegetables with soap and water should eliminate any live virus.
For hard-skinned produce, scrub skins or peels with a soft-bristled vegetable brush, using dish or hand soap and warm water. For other types of produce, including leafy greens, soak in soapy water for 10 to 15 minutes, then rinse thoroughly.

We noticed that the local supermarket are selling these at $5.40/2kg so we will sell them in 2kg bags for $4 or $5 if your feeling generous.
