Following today’s Government announcement, as of 11.59pm Sunday 14 February the Wellington region will move to Alert Level 2 until 12 midnight, Wednesday 17 February.

What does this mean for travelling with Metlink?

Face coverings are once again mandatory for travel on all Metlink bus, train and ferry services. We will be continuing to run our full timetable from midnight tonight (Sunday 14 February).

Passengers should continue to follow the Government’s level 2 advice which includes tracking their locations, practicing good personal hygiene by washing and sanitising their hands before and after travelling, sneezing and coughing into their elbows and avoiding public transport completely if they are sick.

Passengers can keep up to date with the Government’s latest alert level 2 measures on public transport through Metlink's social media, website and app. #Staysafe #BeKind #Metlink

Full fares will return across the region on July 1 now that New Zealand has moved to alert level 1 and physical distancing restrictions have been lifted.

Fares, including the handling of cash, were temporarily suspended to support the Government’s public health response to the COVID-19 Pandemic. Metlink has been working very closely with the Government on the safest and fairest time to reintroduce full fares to passengers across the region.

Advice from the Ministry of Health has confirmed it is safe to handle cash, provided this is done responsibly. Good hand hygiene remains essential, with passengers and staff continuing to wash or sanitise their hands as soon as they can during, before and after travel. In addition to the current bus services during COVID-19 level 4 lockdown, Metlink will run a Masterton town service on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings for essential travel only (e.g. to the supermarket). This aligns with pension/benefit days.

The service will follow the usual town service routes (201, 202, 203 and 206) in a circuit starting from 9am at Church Street.

There will then be a return service starting at 11am following the same circuit.

Please note: This will run as an ‘on demand service’ to assist the local residents getting to the supermarket/pharmacy etc. and back. The return timings will be approximate due to the current queueing times.
