Mystery Trip to Upper Hutt

The trip turned out to be the southern city of Invercargill. I would have been slightly annoyed that it wasn't for instance, Queenstown, but i am sure I would have found something that allowed me to have a pleasant time in a city I have never actually been to - and I have been to Queenstown several times.

So the couple complained and got their money back.

What if the couple had found themselves in the city of Upper Hutt and were told that the rules of the mystery trip was that they could not travel to anywhere else but Upper Hutt? Could they have had a great time in a "great" city?

Well they could visit Staglands which is a kind of rugged farmland zoo, they would have to go to Expressions because this place is compulsory viewing. Oh, yes, it might be happiness if their trip coincides with a race day at Trentham, but olay, we now have this craft beer tour and I believe that one of the four craft beer establishments we currently have, now has food available. They could take a walk around Trentham Memorial Park if they are dog fanciers. If the couple are looking for fine dining or a four-five star accommodation then they are probably stretching their luck though Wallaceville House is the best we can offer. And we do have some cafes who give you real Wellington quality coffee. And when its open there is the Devonshire tea barn in Te Marua where their scones are so good that it's a compulsive stop for circuit cyclists.

Is Upper Hutt a better city to visit than Invercargill? Tim Shadbolt would say no.

Bring a pest to school day: Biosecurity talks traps with enthusiastic students

Community Engagement Advisor from Greater Wellington Regional Council

Our biosecurity officers do a lot more then just protect our native environment. They are out there talking to the backyard protectors of tomorrow! Two of our team recently visited Plateau School where they talked pests, predators and what happens when you put a banana in a trap...

Hi everyone,

I'm hoping someone can help I'm looking at trying to grow kiwifruit (preferably golden but would be happy with green) and have been talking to the local garden shops.

As I understand due to the viruses up north it's not illegal to grow or sell locally but you can't transport plants around the country. As the only nurseries in the country growing kiwi fruit plants are up north no-one can get them down here.

The garden shop suggested trying to find someone locally who has two existing plants (male and female) and try and take cutting to grow them. They will grown in the Hutt quite happily it's just trying to find some.

Has anyone got two plants I could take cuttings off?

As you are well aware the General Election is on 23 September 2017. It is under 6 weeks away!
Here are some alarming statistics! One million eligible New Zealanders did not vote in the 2014 Election! They have been described as the missing million! Of these about 750,000 enrolled but did not vote and about 250,000 did not even enrol.
In New Zealand voting is not compulsory (in Australia it is) but enrolment is required by law.
In the last NZ Census (2013) 45% of the population described themselves as Christians. Assuming that the voting & eligibility ratios among the Christian population are the same as the rest of NZ’s population then some 450,000 professing Christians did not vote. Even if we reduced this figure by almost half then a very conservative estimate would be at least 250,000 professing Christians did not vote in the last election!
