Why a higher rates rise is right for Auckland

Todd Niall Reporter from Auckland Stuff

Hi Neighbours, We would all like to pay less for something - like a rates bill. But you get only what you pay for and the option of a 2.5 per cent rise instead of 3.5, brings risk. What do you think? Read the story below:

Hi All, just to bring to your attention a situation that recently happened to us.
We needed sound insulation to be installed in the ceiling of the unit below ours. After two site visits by Stephen from Insultech
Insulation, during which he assured us and our neighbours below us, that Insultech had successfully installed insulation in many units like ours. We booked them for a last Friday the 5th of June. The installer arrived an hour late, drilled 10 holes, 20mm in diameter, in a pefectly healthy ceiling and then concluded that the product should not be installed.
We received a refund of the deposit but also a refusal to repair or contribute to the repair of the ceiling, work requiring both a plasterer and a painter.
We would also have appreciated suggestions of other options but Stephen became defensive and rude. Communication with Insultech generally was slow, confused or non-existent.
That they don't have a list of preferred painters and plasterers after 28 years in business, and a family company at that, is also both surprising and concerning.
We wouldn't recommend Insultech to anyone.
