Is a wide Gap between front teeth really cute?

Loyola from Caring 4 Smiles Dental Group

Growth and development of the face sometimes leaves a minor blemish in a Smile. It is not natural to have a wide gap between front teeth BUT, and if a dentist catches this early ( by age 9 ), it can be helped to close correctly.

Leaving the gap through teenage years pushes the remaining teeth further apart and to correct the gap at a later age can be an expensive option / braces / veneers.
-
In some cultures, a gap is a sign of "Good Luck" and "Fortune", but for the most of us, it is an unsightly presentation and makes us self-conscious.

If your child is developing a wide gap in the front teeth, do come in for a chat to know what can be done to correct this. Call us on 09-6315416 or email caring4smiles@gmail.com for an appointment.

The tongue, lips, cheeks and neck muscles play a significant role in the development of a wonderful Smile and face. All of the development is early in childhood.
-
Children may develop a Mouth-breathing habit early and this causes the lips and teeth to be forced into improper & deformed positions. There are easy ways to correct this, if a child is managed early, and we have treated children as young as 4 years of age, with simple fun-type appliances, bringing about dramatic facial corrections, avoiding extensive braces or surgery down the track.
-
Mouth breathing affects facial development, sleep patterns, and general mental development. Such a massive issue is often missed in early childhood and the parents suddenly realize that their child's teeth are sticking out or the face is not as pretty as it should be.
-
If you see a child sleeping with their mouth open, drooling when sleeping, having a wet pillow or waking tired even after 8 hours of sleep, you may be dealing with a Mouth breather.
-
Call us for a FREE - NO OBLIGATION chat and let's create a beautiful face for your child.

Good Dentistry is Caring Dentistry

Loyola from Caring 4 Smiles Dental Group

There is a general acceptance that we only visit the dentist when something is busted. If it ain't busted - why fix it? This was 'Old School Dentistry', when Preventive Care was unheard of and you waited for bleeding gums or a toothache to visit the clinic.

Preventive Dentistry is all about managing risk in your mouth and waiting for something to bust, never a good idea. A Caring Dentist will evaluate the risk any patient faces and bring it to the patient's attention. This patient did not notice her front teeth were getting chipped. If this was left unattended, the 6 front teeth would be reduced to half their size and CROWNS would be the only solution - an extensive process - uncalled for if fixed in a timely manner.

That's exactly what Caring 4 Smiles Dental Group is all about. We have a lovely practice where everyone feels right at home. Please click on the link to BOOK NOW to see us.

Finger & thumb sucking - Consequences and remedies.

Anne is now 11 years old, but has been my patient for the past 6 years. She is a compulsive finger sucker and nothing that her mum or I said, would convince her to stop or try to break the habit. Her fingers show the scars too.

A year ago, I decided to take a close up set of high-res photos of her teeth and put them up on my screen. The shock on little Anne's face was enough and she said that she wanted to have a beautiful smile.

Anne came to see me last week, a whole year later, and her mum said that from the last visit, she had stopped the finger sucking totally. Merely breaking her habit allowed Nature and her lip pressure with normal swallowing movements to correct the problem. The power of high resolution digital intra-oral photography cannot be under-estimated as seen in this delightful case, where no treatment was necessary to correct the problem.

Caring 4 Smiles Dental Group, is a Preventive Care practice and we actively promote the amazing ability of the body to self correct and heal. However, we also use habit correcting appliances and other means to get the right growth and development. We love seeing children and we track them with regular visits.

Haven’t we all heard this one before …… my dad and mum had bad teeth, and wear dentures, so I will have bad teeth.

All babies have mothers who have just been through a pregnancy, lived through the hormonal
changes and poor oral hygiene. Crazy sleep patterns and with little time to brush and floss, gum
inflammation with bleeding is a constant companion. This gets aggravated by brushing hard and
soon mums feed irregularly, and their diet is lacking. Very quickly, the bacteria in their mouths,
matures into the more virulent forms that cause gum disease.

Often, mums feed their babies and use the same spoon to taste the food they are feeding baby,
thereby introducing the virulent bacteria into baby’s mouth – Ah !!!! so that’s how it begins. Mums
and dads can easily break the transfer chain by using fresh spoons and being vigilant on what goes
into baby’s mouth.

A beautiful Smile begins with early Preventive Care and the team consists of the dentist, parents and
the child.

At Caring 4 Smiles, we invite mums to visit as many times as they wish, with baby. We train mums
and dads to care for the tender mouth, and slowly, baby enjoys coming to the practice, learns oral
care skills and the results are sparkling.

A beautiful Smile is the best gift to YOUR child.
