Manukau East Shopping Shuttle

Lindsay Upton from Manukau East Council of Social Services (MECOSS)

For older people who no longer drive a car, have limited mobility, find it difficult to use public transport or live in areas with limited transport links, it can be difficult to get out and about. This can lead to feelings of isolation, loneliness and a lack of independence. MECOSS provides community transport to support older people to live more independent lives.
The Manukau East Shopping Shuttle is a community service that eliminates the need for people to be reliant on family, friends or neighbours to take them to do their shopping. It's also a cheaper option than taxis.
Every Thursday, our friendly volunteer drivers and volunteer companion shoppers, collect clients from their home and drive them in a community shuttle van to Botany Town Centre or Pakuranga Plaza. They can enjoy two hours of shopping before being returned home early in the afternoon.
The $10 cost includes the return fare and a cup of tea or coffee over a chat. Mobility equipment is available on request. Please phone Maureen on 0800 632 677 to book for next Thursday.
