At around 10.55pm on Saturday (15 November), a woman knocked on the victim’s door, saying she had a flat tyre and needed help.
The victim – a man in his 50s – walked with the woman to the corner of Melvin Street and Turner Street, where he was accosted by a man and assaulted. During the assault, the offender also attempted to restrain the victim by tying his hands behind his back. The victim suffered serious injuries in the assault, including a fractured eye socket and broken nose.
Enquiries are under way to establish the identity of the man and woman involved in this incident and we’re hoping Edendale residents can help.
Following the assault, the victim saw an SUV leaving the area at speed, and we believe it is likely the man and woman were in this SUV.
To help us locate this vehicle, we would like to hear from any residents who have street-facing security cameras on Turner Street, Melvin Street, Seawood Road or Ferry Road, and who may have captured footage of the vehicle on Saturday night.
We would also like to speak to anyone who saw an SUV in the Edendale township between 10pm and midnight, or anyone with other information which could assist our enquiries.
If you can help, please contact Police via 105, quoting file number 251116/4977. Information can also be provided anonymously via Crime Stoppers on 0800 555 111.

An update on the new Pakuranga Rd intersection - AT and the Eastern Busway team are taking a number of actions to sort out those afternoon traffic delays on Pakuranga Rd heading east.
We want to reassure everyone that the team is investigating a design solution to improve the efficiency of the intersection.
Other actions are also underway:
📌 Adjusting traffic lights to optimise vehicle flow and monitoring traffic.
📌 Putting construction work at the intersection on hold - only essential activities are being completed like installing permanent signage.
📌 Assessing the potential removal of a Pakuranga Road pedestrian crossing between the intersections of Brampton Court and Tī Rākau Drive.
📌 Getting feedback from MP Simeon Brown, councillors and the local board.
We'll keep you updated - thank you for your patience.

But beneath the neat garden and solid pathways, our inspection revealed a different story — multiple cracks and offsets in the ceramic drain lines, likely caused by the 2010–2011 earthquakes.
The damage wasn’t causing major symptoms yet, but it was only a matter of time. Thankfully, the property had an EQC (now Natural Hazards Commission) claim on record, and our team was able to guide the owner through the process of submitting a repair claim.
Once approved, we replaced the damaged sections, reinstated the site to its original condition, and left both tenant and owner relieved to have caught the problem early — and grateful it didn’t come out of their pocket.
Have you claimed your free drain check with Enviroflo yet?"

I’m moving to Wellington for work and looking for a place from 16 February 2026. I’m 22 and starting a full-time role as a young graduate professional in IT/Data Science in the CBD.
I’m tidy, respectful, non-smoker, and like keeping my space clean. Outside of work I enjoy music and photography, but I keep things quiet at home. I don’t have a car, so good bus access to the CBD is important.
What I’m after:
-Prefer living alone (studio/bedsit) but open to a quiet flat too
- Easy bus access or walking distance to the CBD
- Furnished
- Close to a supermarket
- Long-term
- Budget up to $350/week
- Move in early Feb 2026
Happy to provide references.
Thanks!
Reuben
