Live Day | Tea for Harmony

Come along for a day of history, family fun, and cultural celebration this Mother’s Day!

In collaboration with the China Cultural Centre in Auckland, immerse yourself in the art of tea culture with the Tea for Harmony Yaji Cultural Salon, a celebration of China’s rich tea traditions.

Experience tea-making ceremonies, sample teas, and enjoy performances of traditional Chinese music, dance, and Peking Opera. Get styled in Hanfu dress and pose for a photograph in front of the grand Puhi Nui homestead! *

Step back in time - try your hand at making homemade butter and watch live demonstrations of bookbinding, blacksmithing and hand-crank sewing. Visit the sweet shop filled with lollies and fudge! Explore old-fashioned crafts, play games or attend a Victorian school lesson at 1:30.

Morris dancers will perform at 10am & 11:30 and the bagpipe band at 2pm. A selection of food will be available, including a few Chinese street food vendors, Mister Gelato and the Homestead Café, or you can pay the sweet shop a visit for a taste of nostalgia with classic lollies and fresh fudge.

Raumati Reads is a free, fun summer reading challenge for primary school aged children that will help them maintain their reading levels over the summer break. It’s a must-do for the school holidays offering free events and activities at local libraries across Tāmaki Makaurau, with great prizes to be won from Auckland Live, Auckland Zoo, Auckland Pools and Leisure, Auckland FC and the Maritime Museum.

Tamariki and their whānau can register from Saturday 6 December at their local Auckland Libraries branch to begin the challenge, which runs until Sunday 1 February.
