Auckland swimmers warned to look out for jellyfish blooms
The Auckland Regional Public Health Service has warned swimmers to watch out for jellyfish blooms on Auckland beaches.
Jellyfish stings and rashes can spoil your swim at Auckland beaches, especially as the water gets warmer, the service says.
They can be caused by a range of sea life, some of which are too small to see.
These include jellyfish, anemones and sea lice along with the more obvious crabs, stingrays and sharks.
Bluebottle jellyfish produce a nasty sting and people should stay out of the water if they see them.
Go to the Ministry of Health website or phone Healthline on 0800 611 116 for information.
