Winter water demand

Given Auckland’s recent news around their low water supply, we thought we’d share how we’re tracking.

This graph shows our water use from June 5 – July 4 over the past 3 years. With the green line showing the maximum target of what we can comfortably supply - we need to keep below this line!

As you can see our use is much higher than in the past couple of years, and if we have a really dry spring we could need some serious water restrictions in summer.

Here are some ways to #loveeverydrop💙
- Shorten your showers (even cutting back by 1 minute can save up to 18 litres!) 🚿
- Turn off the tap when shaving or brushing your teeth
- Only put full loads of washing on at a time 👕👖
- Share your water saving tips with friends and family!

Let’s take a #LookInsideThePipes

These nasty blockages are a nightmare for the wastewater network, and our crew has to clear them out, sometimes by hand.

The only way to stop them? Only flush the 3 P’s (poo, pee and toilet paper), and don’t let fats and oils down the sink 💩🚽🧻

Our home in Epuni, The ReMakery provides opportunity for employment development, skills development, place of learning, place of manufacturing from waste reincarnation, returning all profits to development of local food projects across the Hutt Valley.

We have 11 urban farms growing food that is crafted into gorgeous meals for the community to purchase. For each meal sold another is gifted to a child at one of our 4 partner schools.

We have an amazing, but small group of passionate dedicated staff supported by a large pool of wonderful volunteers. We desperately need funding support to ensure we can continue to employ our staff to ensure this community regeneration work can continue and grow.

This month we’re celebrating the diverse array of people who call New Zealand home. Regardless of our different faiths, abilities, cultures, nationalities, ages, orientations and even genders - we want to make sure that our communities are safe and welcoming for all.

There’s many ways to take part! From hosting a multicultural potluck where each attendee brings a dish from a country of their choice to coordinating a fundraiser that benefits refugees or our elderly there are thousands of ways big and small to make our households, neighbourhoods, schools and businesses even more inclusive. It could even be as simple as learning from a neighbour how to say ‘hello’ in their native language or ensuring local footpaths are accessible!

Don’t forget this month also coincides with Women’s Refugee Awareness Month and International Day of Friendship on July 30th - a United Nations day that promotes the role that friendship plays in promoting peace in many cultures.

Want to share your thoughts? Let us know how you’re making your community more inclusive this month by tagging us in your posts + using the following hashtag so we can see what you get up to:
