The Minister for Seniors Tracey Martin has released the new strategy for our ageing population, Better Later Life – He Oranga Kaumātua 2019 to 2034.
Like the rest of the developed world, New Zealand has an ageing population. This means there are some things we must consider and prepare for as a country.
Better Later Life takes a fresh look at what is required to ensure New Zealand is a great place to age and achieve the vision of making sure older people lead valued, connecting and fulfilling lives.
The strategy's key areas for action will be used to guide the priorities of what needs to happen in our action plan.

The project team replacing the water pipe in Duncan Street needed to temporarily turn the water off to progress construction today.

My little 10 year-old sister and I have some more freshly-picked, pesticide-free habaneros off our bush that we would like to sell to earn some pocket money.
The $1 coin is for size reference, these habaneros are on average 4x to 5x bigger than normal chillis and are really hot so you only need to cut up a small portion into food. The rest can be frozen until needed. Currently Countdown sell jalapenos for $1.20 each. These are smaller and much more mild than my habaneros meaning they don't go as far.
$1 each or 6 for $5.

A New Zealand folk and blues music veteran, Chris Thompson is internationally recognised for his masterful guitar playing and original songs. He has released numerous albums, and toured with many singers and musicians including Julie Felix, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Sonny Terry and Brownie McGhee, and John Hanlon. His songs have been covered by, among others, US psych-folk musicians Meg Baird and Robin Pecknold (Fleet Foxes). Join us for this free concert on the occasion of Chris’s latest release, the EP Woodsheddin’.
About Chris Thompson
Chris Thompson began performing as a teenager in Hamilton during the late 1960s, before finding success in the Auckland music scene. In 1970, already recognised as an accomplished fingerstyle guitarist, he moved to the UK to tour with Julie Felix, soon becoming part of the London and Dublin folk music scenes. His 1973 debut album on the Village Thing label, Chris Thompson, has since been acclaimed as a lost psychedelic folk classic and been reissued several times since 2001. Based back in New Zealand from the mid-1970s, Thompson has gone on to release over 20 albums, including as a duo with his former wife Lynne. His songs are notable contributions to the international folksong repertoire and capture a strong New Zealand perspective.
