Auditions for 'The Adventures of Tom Sawyer' - all welcome!

Tanya Piejus from

KAT is holding open auditions for their next major production, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer.

The play:

"Mark Twain's immortal classic about growing up in a small town on the banks of the Mississippi is a joyous leap into the great river of time and memory. Conjuring all the mystery and magic of childhood, this famous coming-of-age story is full of twists and turns and adventures the whole family will treasure." (Playmarket website).

Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn, lads whose antics often get them into trouble, stumble across a murder in a graveyard at night. This triggers a series of events which finds Tom and Huck running for their lives, falling in love and finding treasure.

This is a fast-paced play, calling for both individual and ensemble performance, with plenty of scope for strong characterisations.

The roles:

There are roles, both speaking and ensemble, for ages 13 to seniors.

There are 8 teenage and 12 adult named characters, plus at least one narrator (in previous productions this role has been split between several players).

Auditions 1.30pm, Sunday April 18 at Cochran Hall, 110 Cashmere Avenue, Khandallah.

If you can't come then, contact Lynn on 027 600 5366 to discuss other options.

Performances July 22, 23, 24, 25 and 29, 30, 31.

(8 performances, including 2 matinees)

Rehearsals start on May 9.

Some Choice News!

Kia pai from Sharing the Good Stuff

Many New Zealand gardens aren’t seeing as many monarch butterflies fluttering around their swan plants and flower beds these days — the hungry Asian paper wasp has been taking its toll.

Thanks to people like Alan Baldick, who’s made it his mission to protect the monarch, his neighbours still get to enjoy these beautiful butterflies in their own backyards.

Thinking about planting something to invite more butterflies, bees, and birds into your garden?

Thanks for your mahi, Alan! We hope this brings a smile!
