Alex Moore Park
For those of you who live in Johnsonville or use Alex Moore Park the recent news story about contamination at the park may have you asking a few questions so we wanted to give you more info. One small section of Alex Moore Park was, anecdotally, used as a landfill site by the US military during their occupation of the park during WW2. We are confident that any rubbish dumping and landfilling would have been confined to Alex Moore Park and would not have extended to private land adjacent to the park. Our initial findings are that the dumped material appears to be of a domestic type rather than industrial origin. It's covered by at least 2 metres of fill and soil and it does not present any discernible risk to park users or neighbours. You can read the full report over on our website. Council officers also have a proposal for Councillors to consider tomorrow morning at the City Strategy Committee Meeting that will look at options going forward for the sports hub at the park.
