Upper Hutt Library Changes

Jan from Ebdentown

On Monday 24th April I emailed all the Councillors individually, except for Steve Taylor whose address I mucked up, he got his a week later.

I asked for their help to get UHCC to provide me with the research evidence of the other similar libraries here and overseas, that Council quote as being successful in increasing Library viability, and number of books borrowed since adopting said philosophy.

I requested all the stats/data and sources that UHCC obtained and used as their comparative basis/template/model to change our Library. I have been asking for this since the beginning of February. Either they don’t have it – or they just don’t want me to have it!

I also asked all the Councillors to pop into our Library and give themselves 15mins of an imagined half hour lunch hour to find just two books one by genre and one other by author after H and let me know how they go.

I also have asked if the Library counts/logs requests for help and if they also count ‘over the counter complaints’? They should, in my opinion, be responsible for gathering all user comments, formal or informal.

I also asked that they please contact me to put my face to my name. I am still waiting to be contacted, acknowledged or dignified by any of them.

Wow. How sad is that Upper Hutt? Your elected representatives don’t even have good manners enough to acknowledge my email. Not a single one!

How is that OK to ignore the people you serve, the people who pay you? Contact your elected representatives and make them accountable.

Please add your voice to mine, email your council and say to them just what you have said here on Neighbourly.

Some Choice News!

Kia pai from Sharing the Good Stuff

Many New Zealand gardens aren’t seeing as many monarch butterflies fluttering around their swan plants and flower beds these days — the hungry Asian paper wasp has been taking its toll.

Thanks to people like Alan Baldick, who’s made it his mission to protect the monarch, his neighbours still get to enjoy these beautiful butterflies in their own backyards.

Thinking about planting something to invite more butterflies, bees, and birds into your garden?

Thanks for your mahi, Alan! We hope this brings a smile!
