Meet Marge, who was once a stray.

"I am a very talkative girl who is always up for a chat with my special human. I have a lot to say, especially when you pat me! I'm also very affectionate, with a particular affinity for head butts, pats, and being picked up. Being slow and steady in your interactions with me is really important, as I can get nervous and unsettled when approached too quickly or intensely.
I'm not your typical lap cat during the day, but at night I want nothing more than to be by your side, whether that's sleeping on you or near you. I love bean bags, and temptation treats (in moderation of course!). I'm not always down to play, but when I'm in the mood, I love ping pong balls and stringy toys!
I'm looking for a quiet home with indoor/outdoor access, and that gives me space and independence when I need it. I would prefer a home without other animals or children as my mood can sometimes change quickly if I feel threatened or am unsure of my surroundings."

Some NZ teachers are refraining/ refusing to be vaccinated against Covid 19 and its current variants.

Would you want your children or grandchildren taught by a teacher who denies the vaccine is effective or warranted sufficiently for them to get jabbed twice in three weeks without the need for the Government to make it mandatory?

And this is despite the tremendous weight of evidence which supports Covid innoculation as the way forward for mankind and recognises the vulnerability of children to the Delta variant of the virus.

More than 700 children have died from Coronovirus in the USA alone.

As expected the NZ Government is gearing to make it compulsory for vaccinations in professions that deal with the public directly such as teachers, retirement home staff, hospital staff, front line workers etc.

"I love birding – some days are just filled with hope and potential. I set out in the rain hoping to maybe see a few kākā/brown parrots or maybe snap a few tui on the right angle, possibly come across some rotund kererū for comedic relief. But some days are blessed with a little extra and the unexpected. Today I came across an unbanded pair of kākāriki/red-crowned parakeets (Cyanoramphus novaezelandiae) fossicking in the undergrowth, then feeding in the trees – blissfully unaware they are relicts of better times. Hopefully proof-positive they are spreading in Wellington and the Hutt Valley. Wellington Botanic Gardens."

"Yesterday I was doing my usual stalking of the backyard birds with my camera behind my washing line as they were flying in for their daily feed of the seed that I had just thrown on the lawn and wondered why they just suddenly all flew off in all directions! What had scared them off was the sight of this magnificent but rotound feline lurking quite near by.

She is very much a Jeckyll and Hyde character, very friendly when she is tucked up with me at night and just loves having her belly rubbed. But outside she runs away when approached and totally disappears when friends or family drop in for a coffee!"

We wouldn’t change her for the world!Remember if you want your pet featured on Neighbourly, email us on yourpet@dompost.co.nz with a recent photo. Please remember to say which suburb you live in.

Upper Hutt's most Covid vaccinated locality is Trentham right where I live. We are currently at just over 90%.

This compares with the lowest vaccinated residents which is Maoribank and its surrounds with 76%. But the worse performing area of the Hutt Valley is the Delaney area of Stokes Valley at 67%.

Has the message not gotten through entirely to these places?

All approved Covid 19 vaccines are effective against the infection including the Delta variant and they prevent to a great extent the virus from spreading, from being severe and requiring hospitalisation and death from the disease.

The CDC came up with this equation: unvaccinated people are 11 times more likely to die of Covid 19.

CDC says vaccinated people are five times less likely to get infected and 10 times less likely to end up in hospital. These figures are pre the full effects of the Delta variant but will have changed little.

NZ's Ministry of Health says 97% of those being hospitalised in NZ are unvaccinated.

The ministry estimates that less that 100 people in the entire country would be unable to take the Pfizer vaccination but for many of these one of the other approved vaccines would be suitable.

Emblazoned with local art, Metlink’s delta buster, a collaboration with Kokiri Marae Keriana Olsen Trust, Capital & Coast and Hutt Valley DHBs, and Te Awakairangi Health Network, is an eye-catching mobile, community focused, pop-up vaccination centre.
Metlink General Manager Scott Gallacher says the delta buster is a timely addition to the fight against COVID-19, building on the free travel to and from vaccination’s that Metlink already has in place across the entire region.
“We want to make getting a COVID-19 vaccination as easy as possible for people across the region. Since Monday 20 September, passengers have been able to hop on board any of our Metlink bus and trains for free as they head to and from their vaccination appointments.
Metlink have been working with the health providers and local artist John Kingi to make sure this bus stands out.
Hutt Valley residents can call 0800 926 257 to find out where and when the Delta Buster will be in operation.
Free return trips on Metlink bus and train services are also available to all passengers travelling on the day of their vaccination appointment who can show their booking confirmation and date either on paper or their devices.
Passengers unable to use buses or trains are encouraged to contact Metlink directly on 0800 801 700 to arrange community transport to and from their vaccination centre.
