I waited for about an hour and a half hoping that the sun would find a hole in the cloud. It didn't. So eventually, I gave up and packed up. That was what the sun was waiting for and popped through a small hole. I managed to unpack my gear and get this photo before the sun was hiding again. Please enlarge for a better view.

The Environmental Protection Authority announced this week that a proposed mine in Central Otago (near Cromwell) is about to enter its fast-track assessment process. A final decision could come within six months, and if it’s approved, construction might start as early as mid-2026.
