My name is Mickey and I am the owner of Busy Bees Cleaning Wellington. Lately we are attending home cleans and a few businesses with mildew & mould problems.
Winter can cause the symptoms to be exaggerated but we have written a blog on Mildew & Mould and if you are having issues please feel free to read this. We do clean problem areas if you need professional help but hopefully the blog with help.

The calls we went to covered a range of storm damage: loose commercial building verandas and signage, roofs lifting, flooded houses, flying billboards and other debris, wires down or hanging low, landslides, trees onto homes and cars, and a few building fire alarms thrown in for good measure.
You may have seen through the media or heard from people involved, that in some cases we could not assist with storm damage at all. So we thought we might take this opportunity to explain a little about how we work in situations like yesterday, where events like storms affect a great number of people over a wide area, and the dangerous situations which arise are ongoing.
As Fire And Emergency NZ, we work within the Fire and Emergency NZ Act. This act requires us (amongst other emergencies and fires) to take whatever action is necessary to save lives and property in danger. But we cannot take unnecessary risks with our own safety to prevent further storm damage to buildings. So that is why, in extremely windy circumstances, we sometimes decide that we cannot safely put Firefighters up ladders onto roofs to secure loose roofing iron, signage and the like.
Also, when there is widespread flooding, there is often very little we can do. For example, if storm drains are overloaded and streets become flooded, there is simply nowhere for us to pump the water to. When basements or houses are flooded, if the water we pump out is going to come straight back again, there is nothing we can do. In situations like these, all we can do is offer some advice, and move on to the next call.
Communities also need to be aware that if there is a high number of 111 calls coming into our Communications Centre and there are more requests for assistance than there are crews to attend to them, calls may be prioritised. For example fire calls or medical assistance calls will be attended before storm damage calls. When this happens, all we can ask is that you keep yourselves as safe as you can, and please be patient, we will do our best to get to you as soon as possible.
Hopefully that little insight into how we work will answer some questions out there. But if not, feel free to ask questions through Neighbourly and we’ll do our best to answer them. If you’re questions are about fire safety and are of a non-urgent nature, feel free to contact your local Fire Station and talk directly to your local Fire Fighters.

Upper Hutt seems to have missed out in the building of more Housing NZ houses or for comprehensive renovating of what stock it has.

But does UP need any more? I say no. UH has enough comparatively cheap housing already.
What UH is getting is a new large housing estate nearby the Trentham Racecourse. And I would like to see apartment-type accommodation inside UH's CBD and greater CBD areas.
Due to the extreme rainfall yesterday and last night, untreated sewage from the Hinemoa Street and Malone Road sewage pumping stations overflowed into the Waiwhetu Stream (consented discharges).

Council's environmental health officers will be inspecting the areas for any visible signs of contamination, and warning signs have been erected advising against swimming in, or fishing from the stream.
Water quality testing is currently being undertaken. Remember, no swimming (or collecting seafood) from harbours, rivers and streams for 48 hours after heavy rain.
While there is still some rain forecast throughout the day, we’re through the worst of it. River and stream levels are receding but still high and fast-moving, so please stay away from waterways until they return to normal levels.

Fraser Park remains closed while damage to the grandstand roof is worked on.
There is still some surface flooding and likely debris, so please take care on the roads.

Power is still out for some in Normandale, Wellington Electricity expects to restore power in the next couple of hours.

If the river continues to rise you may need to leave your home. This means think now about things you may want to move to higher ground and family and friends you can stay with outside the area.

Strong winds earlier today have also lifted one of the roofing tiles at the Fraser Park Grandstand. The tile cannot be fixed at the moment as it's too dangerous for fire crews to be on the roof in this weather. The ground has been closed as a precaution and the gates are up. Please keep away.

It's bitterly cold out and the Hutt River is running high so please stay inside if you don't need to be out and stay away from waterways.
We've also closed three Council facilities early today at 4pm: council's building on Laings Road, War Memorial Library and the Lower Hutt I-SITE.
