This isn’t just a name change, this is the creation of a whole new organisation bringing career and volunteer, urban and rural firefighters into one organisation. This is the biggest re-organisation for our Fire Service, since the Fire Service Act was introduced in 1975.
For our Lower Hutt communities however, there will be no noticeable change. If you or your neighbours have a fire or other related emergency, you still only need to dial 111 and ask for Fire, to have Fire Fighters respond to the emergency. For us as Fire Fighters, when an emergency call for help is received, we will respond.
As Fire and Emergency New Zealand beds in, more visible changes will become apparent. Changes such as uniform emblems and identifying graphics on our Fire Appliances, Fire Stations, and published material will change over time.
As always, if you’re looking for non-urgent fire-related information in Lower Hutt, your local Fire Fighters can be contacted through Neighbourly or by calling you’re local Fire Station.
But if the worst should happen in your home…
Get out and stay out
In a fire, get everybody out and call 111.
And whatever you do, stay out.

The first tsunami Blue Lines in Lower Hutt have started to be painted. Blue Lines are road markings that show the likely maximum reach of a large tsunami. They also show where you need to get past in such an event. Remember if an earthquake is long or strong - get gone! Don't wait for an official tsunami warning.
Hutt City Council, Wellington Regional Emergency Management Office (WREMO), and GNS Science have worked together in Lower Hutt to identify where the Blue Lines should go. It's going to take a while for all the Blue Lines to be painted as we'll need a run of good weather but in the meantime you can check out where they're going on our website
www.huttcity.govt.nz.... In the next few weeks every household in Lower Hutt will also receive a pamphlet with more information about Blue Lines.

Any flax weavers out there wanting a decent-size bundle of leaves just cut today? Had to trim the bush as it was blocking the path. Good healthy leaves, not sure what variety of flax but a nice deep flaxy green with hints of purple in there. The Lions might be the talk of the town, but a band of Irish rugby players is making a big impression at clubs around Wellington.
While the Ulster junior sevens team's tour might have been somewhat overshadowed by the British and Irish Lions, the parallel tours are no coincidence.
