Red Cross door to door caller fundraising
This afternoon a friendly lady knocked on my door and explained about all the good work that the Red Cross is doing in my neighbourhood. She was kosher - had all the right ID - and did not collect cash or cheques, but had a really excellent soft sell manner, getting me to agree how good the Red Cross is, and then subtle pressure to get me to sign up to a regular giving plan by automatic payment or debit/credit card. She told me that all my lovely neighbours had signed up. I found it really hard to say 'no' but I did. No doubt she is being paid by commission but I prefer to donate to the Red Cross in my own way - I donate through Kiwibank from time to time. They give me a tax receipt on the spot. I do not want any of my donation to go towards commission.
