At around 10.55pm on Saturday (15 November), a woman knocked on the victim’s door, saying she had a flat tyre and needed help.
The victim – a man in his 50s – walked with the woman to the corner of Melvin Street and Turner Street, where he was accosted by a man and assaulted. During the assault, the offender also attempted to restrain the victim by tying his hands behind his back. The victim suffered serious injuries in the assault, including a fractured eye socket and broken nose.
Enquiries are under way to establish the identity of the man and woman involved in this incident and we’re hoping Edendale residents can help.
Following the assault, the victim saw an SUV leaving the area at speed, and we believe it is likely the man and woman were in this SUV.
To help us locate this vehicle, we would like to hear from any residents who have street-facing security cameras on Turner Street, Melvin Street, Seawood Road or Ferry Road, and who may have captured footage of the vehicle on Saturday night.
We would also like to speak to anyone who saw an SUV in the Edendale township between 10pm and midnight, or anyone with other information which could assist our enquiries.
If you can help, please contact Police via 105, quoting file number 251116/4977. Information can also be provided anonymously via Crime Stoppers on 0800 555 111.

Yesterday (Monday), I saw something that scared the heck out of me.
A kid in a HNI uniform riding an electric scooter along Campbell St, around 4.15pm. The scooter handles were up to his chin, standing straight upright, and he was flying. Literally flying. Every time he hit a bump his feet came up off the deck.
He was travelling too fast to avoid disaster, if someone came out of a driveway or stepped on front of him, as he was neither tall enough, nor heavy enough to control the scooter properly.
Please parents, rethink letting your small children ride electric scooters. E-scooters too big and too powerful for them. Not to mention the kids don’t have the sense of self preservation they need, to ride them safely.
ACC has up to date statistics for the past three years showing a jump in claims for e-scooter accidents. Especially in the 10-19 and 20-29 year old range.
Please, please, before your child becomes a statistic, consider, do they really need to travelling at up to 45kph, outside of a car, just to get to school, or hang with their mates.
If you wouldn’t put them on a 50cc motorbike without a licence, is an e-scooter safer, when it can travel just as fast. And kids make sure they do.

But beneath the neat garden and solid pathways, our inspection revealed a different story — multiple cracks and offsets in the ceramic drain lines, likely caused by the 2010–2011 earthquakes.
The damage wasn’t causing major symptoms yet, but it was only a matter of time. Thankfully, the property had an EQC (now Natural Hazards Commission) claim on record, and our team was able to guide the owner through the process of submitting a repair claim.
Once approved, we replaced the damaged sections, reinstated the site to its original condition, and left both tenant and owner relieved to have caught the problem early — and grateful it didn’t come out of their pocket.
Have you claimed your free drain check with Enviroflo yet?"

These days, we’re getting pretty creative about how we do it too. The latest idea? You can actually buy a symbolic piece of one of New Zealand’s most remote islands as part of the Auckland Island Restoration Project.
If you had a bit of spare cash, would you 'buy' into the project?
And maybe the bigger question — should we be looking at doing the same kind of thing for wildlife refuges on our main islands too?
