At-Home Fire Safety Checklist

Fire and Emergency from Fire and Emergency New Zealand

With everyone staying home, it’s now more important than ever for everyone to be fire-safe. People can find information on our website - fireandemergency.nz...

We’re heading into winter, and with households self-isolating together, there’ll be more cooking at home, and more use of open fires, heaters, and dryers - all things which can increase fire risk.

New Zealanders can be confident that Fire and Emergency is well-prepared and ready to respond to emergencies as usual during the nationwide self- isolation period.

Please call 111 if you have a fire, we will ask you whether anyone at the address is self-isolating or has a confirmed case of COVID-19. Where this is the case, we already have necessary measures in place to ensure everyone’s safety including protective clothing, gloves, masks, safety glasses and mask.

Rude dog owners

Abbie from Parkvale

Sorry got to grumble, I am a dog owner myself and fully understand that walking them is important at this unsettling time. I am only walking my dog very close to home to not be near others and their houses. We just walked around Queen's Square, we in one circuit came across 6 dog poos all fairly fresh, now common dog owners please be responsible and pick that up. You should in my mind never leave the house with your dog without a bag or whatever you use (ours has a container of bags clipped to his lead) to be able to pick it up.

Please keep others who are also wanting to walk/run with or without a dog in mind.

Tell us the story behind your bear

Katie Townshend Reporter from Hawke's Bay News

We're going on a bear hunt! People across the country are popping bears in their windows. But what's the story behind the fuzzy faces? Tell us about your bear - what's their name, where did you get it, how far have they travelled? Post a photo and tell us their story! (Please mark any posts you don't want to see published NFP).
