This month Hawke's Bay man Daniel Lee, 23, begins the 3000km Te Araroa trial through the centre of New Zealand to raise $10,000 for the region's Lowe Corporation rescue helicopter, which came to his aid 17 years ago. This challenge will see him walk from Cape Reinga to Bluff over the next few months. Read more about Daniel's journey here:

New neighbour
Okay folks, if you feed your animals outside, you might want to rethink that. We have new nocturnal neighbours, inside Havelock North.
There is a very well fed brush tail possum up the pōhutukawa tree in my garden.
I don’t know where it’s come in from, but it’s in the middle of a residential neighbourhood, so keep an eye on your pet doors, open windows and doors and pet food.
I’ll be notifying council and DOC tomorrow.
