A South Waikato District councillor has called for a ban on tourists driving for 48 hours after they arrive in the country in order to reduce crashes.
Putaruru Councillor Herman van Rooijen said it didn't make sense for "people to come into New Zealand, that are used to driving on the other side of the road, to then hop into a car after a long flight".

A self-drive car sharing service has launched in Hamilton.
Waikato company Loop has signed an agreement with the council to provide a car sharing service in Hamilton for three years.
The cars are Volkswagen Golf, based near Waikato Museum on Victoria St, but users can also find them using Loop's phone app.
Users must download the app from the Google Play or Iphone store to book a car, from there users are able to drive the car around Hamilton at a cost of $15 an hour.
The car has insurance cover, but a $1000 excess will need to be paid if the driver damages the vehicle.
Hamilton is the latest city to get on board with car sharing. Loop allows users to book, access, drive and pay for a vehicle through the phone app.
Loop said the average vehicle owner used their car for only about 4 per cent of the time it was owned.
Car sharing, which is huge in Europe and North America, connects customers to communal vehicles that are parked in convenient spaces around town, allowing them to be used on a pay-by-the-minute basis.

I have got this popup alert on my screen plus this website came up right after. Is that genuine? This is the second time I get this. First time I ignored it. Have you guys ever received this? It doesn't sound genuine for me.

HI does anyone have A4 photocopy boxes lying around - preferably with lids. We use them to pack children's books for Vanuatu.

We’ve printed ours onto linen to wrap around pot plants, a simple yet thoughtful gift that friends and family will love.

Is this the only option or are there better solutions? I observed in Barcelona a drop off point (i.e. hole in a shop window) where such smaller items were deposited. As batteries are becoming even more importantly strategic for lower carbon footprints ( is that so?) what are the best means of disposal for the long term?
Also, I have had to buy x number of electric drills over two decades because the batteries have died? Surely we should be in an age of repowering such items than increasing consumerism associated with a throwaway society. Has anyone constructive ideas please.

But Chooky's Auto owner Darrell Conder, whose business sits on the intersection, says the signs have done little to slow drivers.
