Hi neighbours - Horowhenua District Council is annoyed with the New Zealand Transport Agency's demands for lower rural speed limits, given the lack of action over the Arapaepae Rd and Queen St intersection.

There have been 43 crashes at the intersection since 2000, the most recent being in May which left one person in a serious condition in the intensive care unit.

What's your experience at this intersection? What could be implemented to reduce the level of risk here? Is lowering the speed limit the right answer?

A big spike in car thefts in Manawatū has police warning car owners to take extra care, especially those who own an old Mazda Demio.

While many of these vehicles are taken and later recovered almost all are recovered damaged. To prevent theft, a steering lock (a device that fits over a car steering wheel and seizes it up), is an effective and cheap option between $30 - $70.

Car-owners are also urged to think about the basics such as parking in well-lit areas and streets with high foot traffic.
