Parking fees hike mooted for central Christchurch

Nicole Mathewson Reporter from The Press

The city council has proposed increasing the cost of on-street metered parking by almost a third, from $3.10 an hour to $4.

Under the current pricing structure, people using a credit or debit card pay $3.10 per hour and a card fee of 50 cents, totalling $3.60. The proposed $4 an hour would see the council absorb the card fee, a move that would cost the authority $300,000 a year but be recouped by the increased hourly rate.

In central Auckland motorists pay $5 an hour for the first two hours on weekdays, then $10 an hour; Wellington drivers pay $4.50 an hour.

What do you think of the rise? Fair enough or will it deter you from visiting the CBD? Read the full story here and tell us what you think in the comments below.

Council replaced my front lawn - whose responsibility?

Jimmy from Woolston

Hi all, some of you may have had your front lawns replaced with gardens as part of a council initiative along with the bike lanes. I dont usually have time to manage this but given the current circumstances i could look at this now. doing my front and back garden is already a lot normally. I understand it was my responsibility to mow my front patch of lawn, but will the council send people out to manage these gardens? A passerby (standing 2 metres away of course) advised that the council manages this, although i have never seen them.

Thoughts?

Cheers.

Jim

Christchurch recycling temporarily halted during Covid-19 crisis

Anna Williams Reporter from The Press

Mixed paper, plastic and glass from Christchurch and Banks Peninsula households will go to landfill, instead of being recycled. If people are struggling to fit all their general rubbish in their red wheelie bin during the lockdown, they can put excess in the yellow wheelie bin - temporarily.
