Local "dark sky" reserve... :)
You don't have to drive to Tekapo to get nice night sky photos - these were taken from Bayleys Road, Kaitorete Spit, near the Kaituna Golf Course on Friday night - it isn't quite as dark there as the Tekapo dark sky reserve, but it's not bad and a much much shorter drive from Chch... as a bonus I got a shot of the Great Nebula in Carina :)
