The city's 27 cemeteries are nearly full, so the city council is looking into developing a new one on land it owns in Templeton.
A new sports centre could be a major boost for the small town, where some residents are gearing up to fight plans for a new quarry nearby.
The development would be on a parcel of 100 hectares on Maddisons Rd – two thirds reserved for the cemetery and the remainder for the sports site.
