Sale of hallucinogenic Christchurch cactus sparks international bidding war
A 7-metre tall drug-producing cactus is pricking interest from worldwide bidders hoping to get their hands on a piece of the towering Christchurch plant.
Owner Jonny Small is hacking off sections of the 30-year-old cactus and shipping them to green-fingered customers as far away as Idaho, Arizona, Texas and Canada.
It was planted in Addington as a seedling more than three decades ago, but its roots had become out-of-control and the land was due to be cleared for development so it "needed to go", Small said.

Some Choice News!
Many New Zealand gardens aren’t seeing as many monarch butterflies fluttering around their swan plants and flower beds these days — the hungry Asian paper wasp has been taking its toll.
Thanks to people like Alan Baldick, who’s made it his mission to protect the monarch, his neighbours still get to enjoy these beautiful butterflies in their own backyards.
Thinking about planting something to invite more butterflies, bees, and birds into your garden?
Thanks for your mahi, Alan! We hope this brings a smile!
