Locals win major upgrade to Grey Lynn park after eight year campaign
An ageing playground and park in central Auckland will be upgraded after eight years of lobbying from the local community.
Waitematā Local Board approved the project on Tuesday which will bring a new playground, basketball court and picnic benches to Home Reserve in Grey Lynn.
Board member Adriana Christy said the renewal of the park was overdue.
“There are a lot of young families who’ve been asking for a playground for a long time,” she said.
“The current playground isn’t fit for purpose it’s old, it’s been needing renewal for a while.”
A completion date has been set for December 2021 and the total cost of the project is $553,000.
