I hope ALL you who replied about teaching children MORE BASIC skills which I agree with have emailed the education minister with your ideas.I know the schools which were promised to get updated have not been but nowadays basic skills have to be taught with the 3r,s and PARENTS are NOT helping children I know some parents work 2 jobs & are too tired but it MUST be made clear to them by teaching your child basic skills they wont have to struggle & work 2 jobs so if mum is just boiling the jug get your child to do it or if making a sandwich show & teach your child to do it or other things in the house if dad is working outside bring the child out with him & show him whatever he,s doing. SMALL things like that will help & a 2nd hand book shop sells books for $2 or so dollars get them at home to read. There,s NO need for them to always on their phones ETC how about in your community centre setting up 1 night children are taught something I,m sure parents can make it 1night & make a difference to your children/child.Also I,v seen around NZ & in Auckland community gardens where everyone can learn gardening together & when the plants have grown you can get FREE food so people look into that,it would teach children parents skills.Around NZ lots of community gardens are operating & you can get info about supporters etc from them.Financial things is VERY IMPORTANT to teach as I said you never know what the future will be so being okay financially is a SKILL ALL children should be taught & I know BOTH Kiwibank & ASB will be willing to go around schools & show children even saving $1 dollar a week grows more & more & is DEFINATELY a skill that children are taught & buying games, mobiles is NOT a good decision as technology changes so quickly.
