Here's another "gotcha" in council's Emergency Budget:
Auckland Council sells around $24 million of assets each year, but this time it is budgeting to sell an additional $200 million of assets = $224 million!

Attached are lists of parkland that council has identified to potentially sell.
From the Kaipātiki Local Board area it includes:
* Rosie Bolt Reserve - R25 Alfred Street, Northcote Point
* Rangatira Reserve - R105 Stott Avenue, Beach Haven
* Lynn Reserve - R107 Lynn Road, Bayview
* Land off Verbena Road, Birkdale (paper road on the bend?)

The list doesn't include land parcel numbers, only addresses, so it is difficult to tell whether council has identified whole parks, or parts of park for sale. It's also not clear why these particular parks have been identified, but in some cases could be purchase enquiries from neighbours.
Last year the Kaipatiki Local Board gazetted all park parcels under the Reserves Act and is currently developing an Open Space Management Plan (RMP) for them, so council will have a fight on its hands to sell any of them. But it's still not good news to see them listed as candidates for sale.

Please have your say on the budget here: akhaveyoursay.nz/emergency-budget
Consultation is open until 19 June.

Why a higher rates rise is right for Auckland

Todd Niall Reporter from Auckland Stuff

Hi Neighbours, We would all like to pay less for something - like a rates bill. But you get only what you pay for and the option of a 2.5 per cent rise instead of 3.5, brings risk. What do you think? Read the story below:
