Charity Shops

Joanne from Glen Innes

I work at a Charity Shop as a volunteer and am really disappointed with people that steal from these shops. People from all ages and races steal from Charity shops. It dosen't matter how you do it, either by swapping tickets or coloured paper, taking prices off the item, and getting it a lower price, it is stealing. You are stealing from organisations that need the money. The Sallies use theirs to help those in the community with budgeting, counselling etc, the SPCA helps the animals, and the Hospice/Dove shops help those that are dying of a incurable disease. Non of these shops or organisations are government funded, and if they are, they do not get enough to keep the organisations running year after year. People who are kind enough to donate goods, expect those shops to get the best price possible for what they donate. So to you who thieve from these shops remember who you are stealing from, it could be one of your family members that need help from these organisations or it could be yourself. Majority of those shops do have cameras and yes we often check the videos and take photos of you. So we become aware of who you are. So Beware it could be your picture in the shop window.

Poll: Have you ever been bullied?

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

People associate bullying with children in schools, but it can actually stretch beyond childhood to workplaces or neighbourhoods.

This Friday is Pink Shirt Day, which began in Canada in 2007 when two students took a stand against homophobic bullying after a new student was harassed for wearing pink. People across the globe are now encouraged to wear pink on this day to take a stand against bullying and promote inclusivity.

Have you or your whānau ever experienced bullying? Share your thoughts on Pink Shirt Day below.

Type 'Not For Print' if you wish your comments to be excluded from the Conversations column of your local paper.
