Unused roll of car boot liner.

Should we ban the school run | Get Aucklands traffic moving again

Hello neighbours. I know this is going to be controversial but lets look at this objectively and provide some logical reasoned answers as to why we should allow parents to clog our roads and endanger our children by insisting on dropping them off and picking them up at school.

Auckland's economy would get a boost of $3.5 million every day if its traffic congestion eased, a report in 2017 found. www.stuff.co.nz...
Do you find congestion lighter when there are school holidays? Do you try and avoid delivering goods during the school run? Is it costing you time and productivity? Do you think that the school run is contributing to congestion? Why do you think parents today feel the need to do this? Are there better solutions like walking buses for school children? Do you think the increased movement of traffic as a result of the school run is increasing the danger for our children? Should there be a park free zone around our schools? Should we introduce a park and ride concept whereby schools have shuttles to and from designated drop off areas? Just a few idea to get things rolling.

Plastic bag confusion.

I know I must be getting a bit vague but would someone please elucidate for me the situation of the plastic bags ban? I understand the environmental impact. What I do not understand is the policies being implemented. This is what I think I know and so please shoot me down if I have it wrong.

I know I must be getting a bit vague but would someone please elucidate for me the situation of the plastic bags ban? I understand the environmental impact. What I do not understand is the policies being implemented. This is what I think I know and so please shoot me down if I have it wrong.
1. Mum (Ms Jacinta Adern) has told us that it will be compulsory to ban single use plastic bags;
2. Mum (Ms Adern) seems to have told us, the shopper, that we can not use these bags;
3. I have read no where, where mum has asked the supermarkets to stop using plastic bags in their business, nor the packaging industry, nor the disposable nappy industry. All of which use plastic bags.
4. Mum, mum...!!!!MUM!!!!! What is a single use plastic bag mum? I use my plastic bags to catch the household waste. That which is dry waste (tissues, dust, paper) is placed in the 'single use' plastic bag and then when full, emptied into the rubbish or recycling and then reused. This is probably an expanded definition of 'singe-use' plastic bags.....oh yes...multiple-use-single-use plastic bags. The waste that is wet is indeed then thrown out, but then that waste tends to be me clearing up dog poo when walking peoples dogs. I therefore do not take a plastic bag from the doggy poo station. Result. Two plastic bags saved.
5. I cant really use a bag for life, but I do at times, but it is a bit expensive and not very good for the environment because I then have to buy plastic bags for my rubbish bins and for the dog poo collection (that is collecting dog poo - not my dog poo collection!)
6. Mum...mum...!!!!!Mum!!!! - did you look at the German experience? Or just blithely follow populist views? In Germany the supermarkets charge quite a bit for a plastic bag so...guess what? People take care of their plastic bags and bring them back for another 'single use'. See previous definition: multiple-use-single-use plastic bags.

So again, with a little bit of thought, we can come up with solutions that are more sophisticated than banning, censoring, and imposing on free choice. But then I get confused easily. I thought we were once the leading nation in developing innovative approaches to life's challenges. What happened?
