Love, respect, care is what I was taught

While driving around for work. I stopped at a red light. I was watching this asian(elderly) lady walking with her walker and struggling with a few shopping bags.
I saw people walk past her as if she was a piece of dirt.
So I did a u-turn.
I asked her if I could drop her home, she agreed. (turned out she only lived a street away) but that's not the point.

The point is..
Elderly people struggle to have a shower or to even go to the toilet.
For her she just went to buy her weekly shopping(still trying to be independent)
But with all this virus thing.
She was worn out today from shopping.
Everyone who's capable can panic buy.
But for her two pack of bread is everything for her for the next 2weeks. She will be on the sofa for one whole day recovering from that one walk and shopping.

Yes I understand we all have to be careful,
But dont forget to be humans.
And still watch out for one another.
Just because shes an Asian doesnt mean shes to blame.. ❤

I have recently launched the Pakuranga COVID-19 Connection Plan.

As part of the plan - we need Street Captains in every street across Pakuranga who are willing to connect with everyone who lives in their street and be the point of contact for those who might need assistance, and helping to co-ordinate assistance whether that is doing the shopping for those who can’t leave home or just simply giving those who are lonely a regular call.

There might already be a Neighbourhood Support Group in your street - in which case your lead might like to register as the 'Street Captain' - or this might be a great opportunity to reignite your NSG.

If you can be a Street Captain in your street - please fill out the form at the link below.

COVID-19 is going to be a challenge for us all - but if we get together and support our neighbours and the vulnerable, together we will get through it!

Not sure if any of you are on Facebook but Simeon Brown is trying to organise "Street Captains" to try and help the Pakuranga Electorate during this time.

A Street Captain will:
- contact everyone in their street.
- be the point of contact for anyone who might need assistance.
- help communicate any key messages to your street.

Simeon is then trying to organise "Suburb Captains" to support the "Street Captains".

The post is on his official Facebook page - www.facebook.com...

In it he links to this document where you can sign up if you're willing to be a Street Captain -

docs.google.com...

There are so many neighbourly people on here (haha pun intended) - it would be good to link with our local MP and make sure we're well organised and on the same page.
