Swim run race

Andrew from Orakei

For those that want something organised (club event) .. and overseas (well over the bridge)

We are excited to confirm that we will be starting the Barfoot & Thompson Swim & Run Series next Wednesday, December 8th - unless we are thrown an unexpected curveball. When Auckland moves to the "traffic light" system on December 3rd, at the most restrictive level ("red") indoor and outdoor events are allowed with up to 100 people provided vaccine certificates are used. Given it has been several years since we have had over 100 people at a race, we are confident we will be able to go ahead.

Obviously there are a few guidelines we are asking participants to abide by:

• Please show your vaccine passport at registration (for those over 12 years old)

• Wear masks when registering and during prize giving

• Do your best to social distance - including when setting up transition

Despite the late start to the Series we are looking forward to still being able to put on eight events - with six of these going towards the Series results. Jacey Cropp and Liam Bird were the Series winners last season - who will win this season?

This season's dates are as follows:

2021

8 December - 500m swim/ 3km run

22 December - 750m swim/ 4km run

2022

26 January - 500m swim/ 5km run

9 February - 1000m swim/ 5km run

23 February - 750m swim/ 4km run

9 March - 1000m swim/ 3km run

23 March - 500m swim/ 3km run

30 March - Grand Final with double points (Distance to be confirmed)

The fees for Series and race entries:

• Race entry fee - Junior - $10 per race

• Series entry fee - Junior - $60

• Race entry fee - Senior - $15 per race

• Series entry fee - Senior - $90

• Team race entry fee - $15 for senior & $10 for junior per race

To enter online please follow the links below. Cash-entries will be taken at the venue on race day with a $5 surcharge. With that said, we expect it to be busy at registration on Wednesday night, so we are asking that you please enter and pay online before the event - regardless of whether you are entering the Series or Race One. This will help our volunteers massively and also limit the number of people gathering at registration.

To enter Race One on December 8th: events.onetime.sport...

Race Day Details:

• Registration @ Takapuna Boating Club (The Strand, Takapuna Beach) 5.15pm - 6:00pm

• Race Briefing @ Start Area 6:10pm

• Race Start @ 6.15pm

• Prize giving to start once the last athlete finishes

We will still have cash prizes for race winners on the night, and sponsors prices for the top three place getters. There will also be plenty of spot prizes. A $10 burger and chips and cheap beer will be available in the Takapuna Boating Club to enjoy during the prize giving.

Some Choice News!

Kia pai from Sharing the Good Stuff

Many New Zealand gardens aren’t seeing as many monarch butterflies fluttering around their swan plants and flower beds these days — the hungry Asian paper wasp has been taking its toll.

Thanks to people like Alan Baldick, who’s made it his mission to protect the monarch, his neighbours still get to enjoy these beautiful butterflies in their own backyards.

Thinking about planting something to invite more butterflies, bees, and birds into your garden?

Thanks for your mahi, Alan! We hope this brings a smile!
