In 1894, English chemist Charles Fredrick Cross patented his artificial silk as "Viscose". He names the material "Viscose" because its production involved the use of a highly sticky viscous solution. The first commercial viscose was produced by the British company Courtaulds Fibres in 1905.
Courtaulds formed an American division to produce their formulation in the United States in 1910. In the USA the name "Rayon" was adopted in 1924. In Europe though, the yarn itself remained known as "Viscose", which has been ruled an acceptable term for Rayon by the U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC).

Scott's research followed children at 2 years and again at 4.5 years. Lack of ball skills was just one factor the team noted. The teachers at Uplands Kindergarten build ball skills into our daily play at Uplands. We see this as a valuable skill for children to achieve - something Professor Duncan no doubt agrees with.

They're often colourful small pieces which will easily be mistaken for berries by our birds. Please be responsible and also remove them when they're not maintained anymore and fall apart in the elements.

Such a happy start to the year with the children enjoying face painting. We were inspired by the Chinese New Year celebration of the Year of the Tiger to paint tiger faces, however following the children's requests, butterflies were a popular choice too.
Welcome back to 2022 everyone.

Small kid's life jacket. Zip is stuck, but I thought there might be someone handy enough to fix it. In worn but good condition otherwise.

Hokitika has been named the most welcoming town in NZ in Booking.com's 10th annual Traveller Review Awards.
Would be keen to hear from those who live there or who have visited whether they think the town really is exceptionally friendly. What makes it a welcoming place, or otherwise? Were there any cafes, restaurants, shops or other places you received a particularly warm welcome?
Lake Tekapo and Oamaru came in second and third place respectively, followed by Cambridge, Picton, Invercargill, Martinborough, Kerikeri and Palmerston North. Would also love to hear from you if you have thoughts on these places. Please include 'NFP' (not for publication) in your comment if you don't want it to appear in a travel article.
Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts?
