An extra $5.5m for historic Hastings building

Nicholas Boyack Reporter from Community News

Hastings District Council has agreed to put an extra $5.5m towards redeveloping the city’s historic Municipal Building.

The building and the neighbouring Hastings Opera House were closed in 2014 after they were found to be earthquake-prone.

The opera house has since been strengthened and was re-opened in February. The Municipal Building is presently being strengthened and this is expected to be completed by April next year. Together the buildings will form the new ‘Toitoi – Hawke's Bay Arts and Events Centre’
