Neighbours unhappy with Johnsonville brothel
Neighbours in Johnsonvile are concerned about a brothel operating in a suburban house.
The brothel in Johnsonville has been operating since 2017, but local residents say the business has grown to a point where it is now posing significant safety concerns.
A nearby resident, who did not want to be named, wrote to the council in July expressing concerns about the brothel, including its location a few hundred metres from Raroa Normal Intermediate School.
She said there had been instances of night-time brothel clients mistakenly knocking on her door, and her neighbour, who lived alone, had been left shaken on several occasions by visitors “turning up at her door looking for sexual services”.
The council said it had been keeping a close eye on the brothel for several months, and was considering its options in response to the complaints.

Poll: Are Kiwis allergic to “exuberance”? 🥝
In The Post’s opinion piece on the developments set to open across Aotearoa in 2026, John Coop suggests that, as a nation, we’re “allergic to exuberance.”
We want to know: Are we really allergic to showing our excitement?
Is it time to lean into a more optimistic view of the place we call home? As big projects take shape and new opportunities emerge, perhaps it’s worth asking whether a little more confidence (and enthusiasm!) could do us some good.
