Orakei Basin Boardwalk Tragedy
Our beautiful Orakei Boardwalk is currently being decimated by Auckland Transport & NZTA’s Joint Venture new $4.9 million ridiculously designed cycle way. The new 1.4 galvanised metal palings (with handrail to go on top) will replace the existing 1.2 metre wooden balustrade & look like a prison cell wall. It will totally obstruct & ruin the stunning views of the Basin & natural reserve. It is a significant disaster that will ruin this unique walkway & view. It is totally incongruous with this bush/water environment. Please contact me or our group, The Orakei Basin Protection Group, if you want more information. Or more importantly, if you want to help us stop this imminent tragedy. We have got the local councillors on to it & AT meetings set up. Please let me know if you have a decent PR person you can recommend. Thanks. Roy. 027 555 5567
