I recommend you check it out online for your town. But the tool does not include wave effects and therefore tends to underestimate the severity of the sea flooding.
Coastal engineers have now looked at wave set-up for Whitianga. They conclude that the wave set-up level is 0.6 m for that town. So this 0.6m should be added to storm tide levels and potential sea level rise levels when assessing possible sea flooding for Whitianga. We now need WRC and TCDC to do this wave set-up modelling for all Peninsula towns.

Should millions of dollars be spent on such new development and Council infrastructure? Should purchasers be invited buy expensive properties which may be under water for this or the next generation?
This crucial decision-making must be made today, not next year or next decade. Councils can no longer pretend that climate change and sea-level rise is something that future councils must deal with.

It's been an horrific week on our roads, with five people losing their lives in vehicle crashes on the district's roads within a few days. New Thames-Coromandel Hauraki road policing Sergeant Rachel Holmes urges drivers to slow down and drive to the conditions.
