Anti-mining groups are furious prospectors want to turn back the clock on a century old mine working and make it productive again. On Wednesday, New Talisman Gold Mine announced it found high grades of gold in the Dubbo deeps zone of the Karangahake Gorge mine, but Coromandel Watchdog spokeswoman Augusta Macassey-Pickard said no amount of high grade gold is worth digging up conservation land.

Kaaren and Nick Marlow were driving home to Auckland from their Matarangi holiday home on July 2, when rocks fell from a cliff at Ruamahanga Bay, State Highway 25, damaging their ute.
The incident happened a day before a large slip came down and blocked the road in the same place the couple's vehicle was hit by the rocks. The road has been regularly closed by more than 100 slips since March.
Have you had any near misses on the Thames Coast Rd? Let us know in the comments if you have.
