We need some clean untreated timber & plywood to make this adjustable wood work bench with a vice we have already. Any clean pine plywood & timber off-cuts 20mm thick would be great around 600 - 1200mm long as well as short pieces 5 -12mm thick for kids to make small wooden things, is another requirement on an on going basis for this very needy community service. Thames Coast Road will be closed from 9am to 4pm daily while NZTA clear up a large slip after Sunday's heavy rain.

There was also extensive flood damage in northern Coromandel Peninsula, closing Department of Conservation camp grounds at Fletcher Bay, Waikawau Bay, Stony Bay, Port Jackson and Fantail Bay.

Full road closure is necessary during the day to allow contractors to clear the slip quickly, NZTA Waikato systems manager Karen Boyt said in a statement.

Anyone travelling through Thames or Coromandel is advised to consider waiting to drive through the site after 4pm once it has reopened. Colville Rd near Golden Bay is still closed but will open to one lane tomorrow.

The Hauraki Herald and Neighbourly are on the hunt for Neighbours of the Week!

Whether you live in an apartment or on a rural property, you have neighbours - and knowing your neighbours matters. Connecting with the people who live around you creates a happier, safer and more friendlier neighbourhood - even if it's just greeting them by name over the fence or popping in for an occasional cuppa.

We want to celebrate all the good neighbours who are making an extra effort to support others in communities across Thames-Coromandel and Hauraki Districts. These are the ones who organise neighbourhood BBQs, help stack their neighbour's firewood or always put their hand up to babysit.

So if you have a have a neighbour that fits the bill, and needs a bit of thanking, let us know. Nominations can be emailed to julie.kaio@stuff.co.nz, or simply post a comment on this message below.

Thanks - Julie and the Hauraki Herald team
