Kia ora neighbours, marine reserves across Tāmaki Makaurau have been plundered by people illegal fishing crews as summer begins.

There are five marine reserves across the city – Tāwharanui, Long Bay-Okura, Te Matuku, Motu Manawa-Pollen Island and Cape Rodney-Okakari Point (Goat Island).

Goat Island in particular is a popular summer spot for snorkelling with more than 100 species of fish recorded at the reserve, which covers 518 hectares.

Don’t walk in the heat, or leave in the car, . Soak them with cool water, cool towels, let them drink. and if no better, vet should be visited. They are relying on us, and a gift that we need to love and appreciate. Obviously shade is best, don’t leave them tied up or outside on hot decks, or even in houses that are shut up. Leave air con and fans on, open windows and doors open a bit if you can. Look after your fur babies everyone.
