Batteries can be recycled!
Hi all,
FYI, you don't have to throw your old/used batteries in the bin any more. They can be recycled! Yes it's not the most convenient solution we have at the moment but it's better than nothing.
You'll need to take them to a recycling point. The one I know is Whangaparaoa Community Recycling Centre next to the petrol station. I have a box I save enough batteries in then take it there when full.
They'll accept assorted batteries, send them to the Ecomatters who store & sort them until they have enough to send them overseas to be recycled (I believe in Japan).
It costs ~$6/kg, as they need to sort the batteries by type, process, store, ship, etc.. A small price to pay.
For more information on Ecomatters' recycling, and to find out other points near you, you can visit www.ecomatters.org.nz...
Hope this helps!
Share your New Zealand music memories...
It's NZ Music Month and New Zealand really has some beautiful songs from artists that we call our own.
Whether it's April Sun in Cuba, Don't Forget your Roots, or How Bizarre or Bic Runga's 'Sway' - songs have a way of unlocking memories and evoking old feelings.
In honour of NZ Music Month, share a New Zealand song or artist that is special to you and explain why.
