Calls for new road following fatal Dome Valley crash
Hi neighbours. Yesterday, one person tragically died in a serious crash on SH1 in the Dome Valley. The death has prompted renewed calls for the NZTA to move forward with Ara Tūhono - an extension of the northern motorway from Puhoi to Wellsford, which would provide an alternative route for the dangerous road. At least 30 people have died in accidents on the road since 2000 according to NZTA data, making it one of the North Island's deadliest roads. Construction isn't expected to start for another 10 years.
Do you travel through the Dome Valley a lot? Should this project be brought forward?
