Hi neighbours,

Is the solution to Auckland's traffic problem in our pockets? Our National Correspondent has been investigating how the movements of your smartphone are being tracked, collected and sold to government agencies. To read more about this, click here.

The location data Google and Spark collect from our smartphones is being studied to try and solve Auckland's biggest transport problems.

For example, some data is being used to help monitor the performance of new state highway infrastructure or upgrades, including measuring travel times through the Waterview Tunnel.

What are your thoughts on this? Were you aware of it? Do you think a solution to your city's roads can be found in the data? Let us know in the replies!
