We’re expecting the region to get a battering tonight with southerly winds of up to 120kmh forecast.
For people in the southern suburbs, don’t forget to use your wheelie bin clip, or avoid putting your recycling out if you can to prevent items being blown about.
And don’t forget, if you’ve got a backyard trampoline or anything else that could take flight, tie it down!
PS. wrap up warmly – it’s going to be good weather for polar bears!

Many New Zealand gardens aren’t seeing as many monarch butterflies fluttering around their swan plants and flower beds these days — the hungry Asian paper wasp has been taking its toll.
Thanks to people like Alan Baldick, who’s made it his mission to protect the monarch, his neighbours still get to enjoy these beautiful butterflies in their own backyards.
